How to utilize Google Sheets formula capabilities on monday.com boards
Use case overview
With resynced.io, you can bypass the limitations of monday.com's Formula column, such as the inability to put any integrations or automations on top of it. Sync data from a monday.com board to Google Sheets, run calculations, and send the results back to update your board—all in one setup.
Prepare your data
In monday.com
Create a board with the necessary columns and data. Add a new number column to store the calculated results from Google Sheets.
In Google Sheets
Create a Google Sheets file with matching column headers.
Select a platform, accounts, and a source
Select monday.com on one side and Google Sheets on the other side as the platforms for syncing.
If you haven't already, authorize your monday.com and Google Sheets accounts to connect them with resynced.io. For details, see the monday.com and Google Sheets integration pages.
Choose the workspace and board from monday.com and the spreadsheet and sheet from Google Sheets.
Filters (optional)
By default, resynced.io syncs all items, but you can use filters to choose which items to sync and which not.
For monday.com, select the column you want to filter, set filters like "equals" or "does not equal," and enter a value.
In Google Sheets each cell in a column can contain different data types. Select the column you want to filter, then set your filter conditions, including data type, such as "Text equals or doesn't equal," "Number equals or doesn't equal," "Checked or unchecked," and enter a filter value. For example, a Budget column might contain numbers stored as text in Google Sheets, and if you filter the Budget column by 'Number equals,' the filter won't work, and no items will be updated.
Always match the values exactly as they appear in the source. Pay attention to capitalization. For example, if the status is "Done," filtering by "done" won't work as expected.
Item creation and deletion
By default, item creation is enabled only for the left source. New items added in the left source will appear in the right source. You can change this setting to allow item creation in both directions. You can also enable item deletion for one or both apps.
Map fields
Map columns from monday.com to the corresponding columns in Google Sheets.
Set the sync direction:
· Source data flows from monday.com to Google Sheets for input values.
· Calculated results flow from Google Sheets back to monday.com.
Sync Timing
Synchronization occurs in two cycles:
· Sync input data from monday.com to Google Sheets.
· Sync calculated results back from Google Sheets to monday.com.
Synchronization runs automatically every 10 minutes, but you can start it manually to test your setup immediately.
Run the first synchronization
Click "Save and Run" to send input data from monday.com to Google Sheets.
Add Formulas in Google Sheets
Set up formulas in Google Sheets to calculate the needed results using the data synced from monday.com.
Ensure the formula is copied to all rows to calculate every item correctly.
Run the second synchronization
After adding formulas, run synchronization manually to sync the calculated data back to monday.com.
